Besides the trio, Ola frequently appears as a featured solo artist
and as part of a lineup in different settings. Here are some:

(bass) / Dave Rempis
(alt/tenor/baritone saxophones)
Jeff Parker

Ingebrigt Håker Flaten Quintet was established during the autumn 2004 and is a long wanted constellation Ingebrigt got invited to put together by the Kongsberg Jazzfestival after receiving the prestigious "Vital prize" award from the same festival in 2004. The first constelation of the band consisted of Anders Hana on guitar, Klaus Holm on saxophones, Fredrik Rundqvist on drums and Ola Kvernberg on violin and the bands first concert at the Kongsberg Jazzfestival in July -05 got by the press described as one of the festivals highlights this year. The quintet recordet their first CD in the fall after this which was released in may 06 on Jazzland records (QUINTET 985 953-1).
Their music can be described as an almost eclectic blend of jazz, rock electronic music and free improvisation but still with their own distinguished sound, and is mainly based on Ingebrigt´s compositions. The variety of the reportoair is also explaind by compositions taken from important musicians like Thelonius Monk, Steve Lacy, Charlie Haden, Anthony Braxton, Marvin Gaye, George Russel and the norwegian bassplayer Bjørnar Andresen.
After Ingebrigt moved to Chicago in 2006 he changed the lineuo to Dave Rempis on saxophones, Jeff Parker on guitar and Frank Rosaly on drums, Ola is still the man on the fiddle. The new lineup will do their first extensive tour in March 07 where they are going to play 14 concerts around in scandinavia followed up with a recording for their next CD.
GammalGrass
Ola Kvernberg
(violin/mandolin) / Stian Carstensen
(
accordion/banjo/lapsteel/mandolin/vocals) / Ole Morten Vaagan
(double bass)
Gammaldans, a genre in norwegian folk music, seems to have surprisingly many similarities with traditional american bluegrass music. The musical language of norwegian gammaldans is based on many of the same codes of harmonic and rythmic movements. Norwegian gammaldans has been, and still is (like its "cousin" bluegrass), music played in intimate settings with both listening and dancing audiences. But: why is there so little improvisation in norwegian folk music? Gammalgrass insist on finding out! ..and while at it - why don't we play whatever comes to our mind? Stian is well known as norways most multi-talented musician, and has had great success with his band Farmers Market. Experienced live, this trio will guaranteed both surprise and entertain you.
The Scarlatti Ensemble
Kim Myhr
(acoustic guitar) / Eirik Hegdal
(soprano- & barytone saxophones)
Marianne Baudouin Lie
(cello) / Ola Kvernberg
(violin)
...the Scarlatti Ensemble, a project initiated by the talented guitarplayer and composer
Kim Myhr, originally started as a strict Scarlatti-intepreter ensemble. During fall-2006
the Scarlatties will do a norwegian tour, followed up by a studio recording. By then, the
ensemble will represent more original material, written by Kim, Eirik and Ola.
Hot Club de Norvége (featured soloist) (visit the official Hot Club Records-site)
Jon Larsen
(lead guitar) / Per Frydenlund
(comp guitar)
Svein Aarbostad
(double bass) / Finn Hauge
(harmonica/violin)
Ola Kvernberg
(violin)
...Hot Club de Norvége was the first band to ever sign up Ola for a record, and had him as a
featured soloist on Olas debut-record together with extraordinary gypsy-guitarist Jimmy
Rosenberg on "Hot Club de Norvége feat. Ola Kvernberg & Jimmy Rosenberg", released on
Hot Club Records (tm) year 2000. Hot Club de Norvége frequently tours as a quartet, as they
have done for 27 (!) years, and often use to bring guest soloists on their tours and records.
Their music is the legacy of the late Django Reinhardt, who established what was to be known as "string swing" og "Django-style" jazz music, where the lineup consists solely of stringed instruments.
Banjovi (featured soloist)
Stian Carstensen
(banjo/lapsteel/guitar/vocals) / Finn Guttormsen
(double bass/vocals)
Håkon Askeland
(mandolin) / Kjartan Iversen
(guitar/vocals) / Knut Hem
(dobro)
Ola Kvernberg
(fiddle)
...this constellation, initiated by Stian Carstensen some years ago, was actually awarded 2. prize on "Worst Band Name Awards"! Banjovi plays pure, traditional and uptempo (real uptempo!) bluegrass. Ola sits in from time to time, and brings some of his own bluegrass-style fiddle-tunes. Strong influences from bluegrassveterans like Ricky Skaggs, Allison Krauss, Earl Scruggs and more.
