Ingebrigt Håker Flaten Quintet was established during the autumn 2004 and is a long wanted constellation Ingebrigt got invited to put together by the Kongsberg Jazzfestival after receiving the prestigious "Vital prize" award from the same festival in 2004. The first constelation of the band consisted of Anders Hana on guitar, Klaus Holm on saxophones, Fredrik Rundqvist on drums and Ola Kvernberg on violin and the bands first concert at the Kongsberg Jazzfestival in July -05 got by the press described as one of the festivals highlights this year. The quintet recordet their first CD in the fall after this which was released in may 06 on Jazzland records (QUINTET 985 953-1).
Their music can be described as an almost eclectic blend of jazz, rock electronic music and free improvisation but still with their own distinguished sound, and is mainly based on Ingebrigt´s compositions. The variety of the reportoair is also explaind by compositions taken from important musicians like Thelonius Monk, Steve Lacy, Charlie Haden, Anthony Braxton, Marvin Gaye, George Russel and the norwegian bassplayer Bjørnar Andresen.
After Ingebrigt moved to Chicago in 2006 he changed the lineuo to Dave Rempis on saxophones, Jeff Parker on guitar and Frank Rosaly on drums, Ola is still the man on the fiddle. The new lineup did their first extensive tour in March 07 playing 14 concerts around in scandinavia followed up with a recording for their next CD Year of The Boar". Their second release led to a European tour during spring 08, and Year of the Boar was included on Jazzwise critic Daniel Spicers top-10 albums 2008 list.
