Stian Carstensen and Ola Kvernberg are well known as Norway’s most multi-talented musicians and feature prominently among the artists on the Norwegian improvisation scene. An increasing number of concerts throughout Europe during the last two years shows that their concept strikes no matter where they play! Having collaborated for the past seven years, Stian and Ola have developed a diverse repertoire ranging from traditional Norwegian folk music, American bluegrass, Bulgarian folk music, jazz and of course classical music.
Gammaldans, a genre of Norwegian folk music, seems to have surprisingly many similarities with traditional American bluegrass music. The musical language of Norwegian gammaldans is based on many of the same codes of harmonic and rhythmic movements. Norwegian gammaldans has been, and still is (like its “cousin” bluegrass), music played in intimate settings with both listening and dancing audiences. Experienced live, this duo will guarantee both surprise and purity.
