North
Except for a few odd TV-commercials, Ola Kvernberg had almost no experience scoring for film and TV when movie director Rune Denstad Langlo commissioned him to compose the full score for his first feature film in 2007, "North". Aptly billed as "an antidepressive off-road movie", the movie became something of a cult hit among audiences and critics as it was screened in a vast number of festivals throughout the world on its release in 2009. "North" turned out to be a flying start for both Langlo and Kvernberg, receiving several awards and nominations (Best New Narrative Filmmaker, Tribeca Awards (won) - Best Score, Amanda Awards (nominated) - to mention a few.) Quoting critic David O'Connell of Screenfanatic: "..a brilliantly conceived score from Ola Kvernberg with its catchy country music infusions."

Alien Repair Guy
In 2008, Ola composed a partial score for a short film entitled "Alien Repair Guy" by the directing duo Helmet, consisting of Alexander Somma and Øystein Moe. Alien Repair Guy is "a sci-fi story about where we come from, and about whose pawns we are - a film about what goes on above our heads. Earth's control box is broken. For the alien caretaker, what seems like just another day at work turns out to be something completely different."

The Experiment
The following year, Danish movie director Louise Friedberg approached Kvernberg, asking him to score her fictional feature debut, "The Experiment". The movie was based on Tine Bryld's memoir "With the Best Intentions", telling the story of Danish government's attempt to educate and civilize 16 greenlandic children in Danish language and culture. The children are introduced into the greenlandic community to spearhead Greenland's transformation from being a poor hunter society to being an equal part of Denmark. "The Experiment" is the first film dealing with the dark episodes from Greenland's history as a former colony, and was praised for its historic importance and emotional appeal upon it's premiere in 2010.

Chasing the Wind
Ola's second collaboration with director Rune Denstad Langlo will be a movie drama entitled "Chasing the Wind", adding screenwriter to Langlo's list of merits. The movie will premiere on February 15 - 2013, accompanied by a score mainly performed by a classic string sextet, assembled and led by Ola Kvernberg. Performed live and old-school in front of the projected images in the studio, the music has a different kind of authenticity to it, and is best described as "classical Norwegian chamber music".
