This is the official website of the Norwegian violinist Ola Kvernberg and his band. The trio released their second album on Jazzland Recordings entitled Folk on January 26, followed up by a series of concerts throughout this spring and summer. The trio is scheduled for a Norwegian tour on Sep 7-13, and continues to tour in Germany/Norway on October 19-25.

Ola Kvernberg grew up in a musical family, playing the fiddle in the folk music tradition of his mom and granddad. Studying classical and folk music from age 6, he discovered jazz music at age 16 and has since then pursued his interest in improvised music.

Besides Ola on violin and barytone violin, Erik Nylander (SE) plays drums, and Steinar Raknes (NO) plays bass. On occation, Børge Fjordheim (NO) joins the trio with additional percussion and drums: hear what it sounds like here.

Almost there - wrapping up the Score Session

So - Christmas is close, and I'm currently finishing the recording sessions for the Danish movie "Eksperimentet". Have had some great musicians to help me out in the studio the past 3 days..

Also, today the trio was granted financial support from the Arts Council of Norway for 2010 and 2011, which basically means we'll increase the amount of dates abroad, primarily Europe, but also hopefully the US in the close future. Stay tuned for more dates to come in a short while.

Merry Christmas!

Trio wraps up touring 09 in Germany

So the trios second part of the tour is finished, Mannheim and Berlin was great, thanks to Adonis at Café Prag, Maja at Universal and Verve Club in Berlin - it was a thrill! Now looking forward to touring with Gammalgrass and Steinar Raknes Quartet in Nov/Dec, along with finishing the score for danish Eksperimentet before Christmas.. Check out the reviews from the tour. Heres a little clip from the Verve Club in Berlin;

This fall..

...Fall '09 is officially opened; did the first part of the trio tour followed by a one week tour with the Steinar Raknes Quartet in Norway the past couple of weeks, along with a short visit at the wonderful Maida Vale Studio at BBC in London last week, recording for BBC3's Late Junction.

This weekend I'll be playing with multi-instrumental genious Stian Carstensen at Ungjazz Festival in Ålesund. On 2nd of October, the trio will be heading for Kaunas, Lithuania, for a double feature at the Nordic Sounds conference at Kaunas International Film Festival - and to round things up; a trio concert at Liberty Pub (Putvinskio St 48, Kaunas) on Sat, Oct 3. Be there!

My homework this fall is Alien Repairguy, a sci-fi movie by Helmet, and Danish Eksperimentet by director Louise N.D. Friedberg.

Tour dates up!
